The Server and Tools Business is looking for an attorney to help support the Developer Division and other aspects of STB. The attorney will support critical product groups that are delivering on Microsoftâ??s vision to enable developers and designers to create the highest quality end user experiences on computers, phones, and other devices. Many of these technologies are in their infancy and are competing with third party products that dominate the relevant market segment, and yet are critical to Microsoftâ??s success as a platform technology company. As a result, a successful candidate will need to demonstrate ingenuity, drive, and the intellectual rigor and courage to devise creative solutions and identify â??smart riskâ? to help achieve our very ambitious business goals. The attorney will work closely with all levels of Microsoft executives, managers and employees, as well as outside partners, customers and vendors.

Primary responsibilities:

â?¢ Work directly with product development, business development and sales and marketing teams to analyze and address the legal issues in a comprehensive client, server, devices, and services business.
â?¢ Advise executives and other internal business clients on a wide range of complex and rapidly developing legal and business issues in the U.S. and internationally, including intellectual property, licensing (including open source software, media codecs, DRM, and font technologies), product development and marketing, competition law and regulatory compliance, services delivery, privacy and security, and employment/labor law.
â?¢ Structure, draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of agreements with global business customers and partners, including development, license, distribution, marketing, sales, services and outsourcing agreements.
â?¢ Work with other product group attorneys and legal specialists on issues requiring cross-team collaboration, with an emphasis on intellectual property, security, privacy, regulatory compliance and export controls.

We are looking for an attorney who meets the following basic requirements:

â?¢ JD or license to practice law in the local jurisdiction.
â?¢ Minimum of 8 years of top law firm or relevant in-house experience.
â?¢ Product development, sales/marketing, IP licensing, and competition law experience.
â?¢ Outstanding analytical, organizational and communication skills.
â?¢ Working knowledge of computer software and Internet technologies.
â?¢ Keen business sense, ability to think strategically and desire to establish a â??trusted advisorâ? relationship with executives and other business clients.
â?¢ Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.
â?¢ Strong results orientation and customer focus.
â?¢ Desire and ability to work as part of a team.
â?¢ Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, working with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams and cultures.
